Seem Editing on the USCC V3c
By nevarDeath
What is a seem edit? Your phone
firmware is made up of a bunch of lines of hexadecimal codes that tell the
phone how to act. These lines of code are called ‘seems’. By changing them, you
can change how your phone does things. So you think you’re ready to do some
seem edits eh? When I first started this, I was real scared about trying it,
and I think a lot of people are. It’s really not terribly dangerous. Just make
sure you’ve got a data cable that will charge your phone while plugged into the
computer. This is because if your phone won’t turn on, but it’ll display the
charging screen, then you can upload seems from there. I have done a lot of
seem editing to my phone and never bricked it, so relax and have fun while seem
editing! For the example seem edit, we’ll be enabling press and hold 1 for
voicemail, which IMHO should have been enabled from the start.
What you need:
Modified
p2kSeem
PST 7.2.3
How to do it!:
Step 1:
Once you have the above software unzipped and installed run
PST, then once it’s started run p2kseem and you should have a screen like this:

I’m going to take a minute and explain what the various
features of this program do.
The “Bytes (h)”
determines how much of a seem you get. The default is 7a and this is ok for most seems. If
the seem is only 3 lines long though, and you have 7a in the “Bytes (h)”
box, then it won’t display the seem at all. Also if
the seem is longer than 7a (which I
believe gets 8 lines) then you won’t get the whole seem. So if you run across a
seem edit on the net and they specify what to put in the “Bytes (h)” box, then pay attention!
The “Seem:” box
is where you type the seem number you want. They are
referenced to by hexadecimal numbers, and this is where you type it, ‘nough said
The “Record:” box
is what record inside that seem you want. Some seems
have more than one record. When doing a seem edit, if the record is other than
0001 (just plain 1 works, but you’ll see it typed both ways) make sure you get
it in there correctly!
The “Load from Phone”
button is pretty self explanatory. Once you have the above information typed
in, hit this button and it’ll grab the seem you want
off your phone.
The “Load from File”
button lets you select a seem you have saved on your hard drive to edit or be
uploaded to your phone
The “Save to Phone:”
button is what uploads the seem to your phone, once you’ve edited it, or to
restore a backup of a seem after you screw it up
The “Save to File”
button is really important. It lets you save the current seem you have loaded
to your hard drive. Always save the
original seem before you edit it!! Always! This way if you screw up
your phone, you can quickly reload the original and keep going. I have setup a
folder called ‘seems’ and inside it a folder called “Good Backups” this is where I save my original seems. I also have
one call “Good Modified Backups” for
the seems I have modified, and they don’t screw up the
phone, so if I have to flash the phone, I can quickly restore the changes I
have made to the seems. Doing something similar will save you lots of time in
the future
Step 2:
Now in the “Seem” textbox type 2742.
In the “Bytes (h):” box type 0090 then hit the “Load from Phone” button. Now you will get a screen like this:

Now our instructions say to edit seem 2742 Offset 0024 bit 2 checked so we’ve got seem 2742 loaded
now we need to find offset 0024 and check bit 2
Step 3:
Below is a picture showing exactly where offset 0024 is. If
you’re not sure, just click on one and look below the white area under “Selected Byte Details” (it’s circled in
red) this will tell you what offset you have selected

Now just check bit 2. You’ll notice that there are words
next to this one telling you if the feature is on or off. Some seem edits have
been documented and the author of this program included those in this program
for ease of use. It’s fun to scroll through all the offsets and see what
options there are. Not all are for the V3c though. Some are only for the e815
or v710. However Just because there isn’t words next to the bit indicating its
function does not mean it won’t do something on your V3c! So if you see a seem edit somewhere on the internet and you go to it in
this program and it’s not labeled, don’t worry, just do it anyway. This program
doesn’t have all the know edits labeled.
Step 4:
Now all you do is click the “Save to Phone” button. It will pop an alert box:

It asks this everytime. Just click yes and it
uploads the seem to your phone!
Step 5:
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, there
is a “Restart Phone” button in this
program. Some seem edits require the phone to be power cycled (that is turned
off then back on) for them to take effect. So I never use this button. Just
close p2kseem and PST, then unplug your phone and power cycle it. After this is
done, you should be able to hold down the 1 on your keypad and it’ll dial your
voicemail! Actually the first time you do it it’ll say “No Voicemail number stored” Just hit “Store” then type in the number (Just your phone number on USCC). If
you don’t like typing your password everytime you
access your voicemail then before hitting “Ok”
hit the options instead and select “Insert
Wait” then type your password (default for USCC is *123*). So now after it
connects to your voicemail it will say “Send
Tones *123*” just hit “Ok” when
you want it to send them. That way you never have to type or remember your
password again!
Known Seem Edits:
This is not a complete list. I am listing these because I
have tried them and I know for a fact they work on a USCC V3c. Lots of people
just copy and paste the big lists that work on the e815 and v710, not all of
which work on the V3c. This will be updated periodically as I find more and as
people try stuff on theirs and confirm that it works and PMs
me about it.
Seem # - Offset # - Bit # - On/Off (checked or unchecked)
2742 – 0063 – 1 – On
– Enables “Messages > Create New
Message > New Letter” This gives you a whopping 3000 character limit text message!! On USCC this uses EasyEdge to send it, so make sure you have the unlimited EasyEdge plan for $9.99 otherwise it’s
1 cent per kilobyte which adds up quickly. It might even use picture messaging,
I don’t know. Someone who is paying for easyedge but
doesn’t have picture messaging should try this and let me know if it works for
you
2742 – 0029 – 1 – On
– This enables you to lock your keypad by hitting CLR and * (Not really
needed on a flip phone, but it’s fun to show off to
your friends that have RAZRs that can’t do it
2742 – 000c – 1 – On
- This turns on the option for assigning a function to your smart key under
“Settings > Personalize > Home
Keys” I don’t think the smart key (the small button on the left top side of
the flip) actually works on the USCC version though
2742 – 001c – 7 – On - Turns on the “My caller ID” Option under “Settings > In-Call Setup” This
allows you to hide your caller ID info on your next call
2742 – 0014 – 0 – On
– Turns on the “All Calls”
option under “Settings > In-Call
Setup > My Caller ID” The options
for this are Hide ID/Show ID/Network Controlled on every call you make.
2742 - 005F – 6 - On
- Enables “Video
Camera Setup > Allow Alert” This enables the menu option, I just haven’t
tested it to see what it does
2742 - 005F - 7 – On - Enables
“Video Camera Setup > Video Quality
and Sound recording” This givces you the ability
to turn the sound recording on or off and Enables the quality setting for your
videos just like in the regular camera program.
2742 – 0074 – 7 – Off
– Changes the “1x” picture on the upper left hand corner of your main
screen to a “D” picture
2742 – 004b – 0 –
Off – Changes the crosshair symbol
next to your battery level indictor to a Satellite picture
2742 – 000a – 7 – On - Enables “Continuous” option under “Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight”
Seem 2784 rec 0001 bytes length A : 4 digit lock code
Seem 2786 rec 0001 bytes length E : 6 digit security code
Seem 0055 rec 0001 bytes length E : 6 digit subsidy code
seem 2742 Offset 6A Bit 0 check to enable used in conjunction with Seem 2827, Record 1, Bytes (h) 22, Offset 0006 check the boxes for bits 0-2-3-6 and uncheck the boxes for Bits 1-4-5-7 : enables verizon V3c/V3m/K1m/L7c to connect to Motorola Phone tools
Seem Edits that DO NOT work on the USCC V3c:
There are some lists out there that people say are for the
e815/v710/V3c then they say not all edits work for all phones. So to save you
some time I will list the ones that do nothing on the V3c. I also would like to
note that once when editing a bunch of offsets in seem 2742 that I accidentally
restricted my picture messaging. I set them all back and it didn’t change, so I
must’ve hit the wrong bit somewhere. A clean backup copy was all I needed to
fix it though.
Seem # - Offset # - Bit # - On/Off (checked or unchecked)
2742 – 0060 – 4 – On
- Does not enable “Camera > Video
setup > Exposure”
2742 - 005F – 5 – On
- Does not enable “Camera >
Camera Setup > Counter”
