Everyday, someone posts about not being able to change
the custom startup or shutdown screens or sounds. This guide is meant
to take all the guesswork out of adding those really cool features. The
skin is not complete until you have the startup and shutdown screens
and animations working correctly. Just to clear up any
misunderstandings, the custom startup and shutdown animations must be
named specifically as custwakeup.gif and custgoodbye.gif. The custom
startup and shutdown sounds must be named Cust_Start~up.mp3 and
Power~down.mp3. If they're not named exactly like this, your phone will
not recognize them and they will NEVER work. So make sure you've got
your .gifs and .mp3s named correctly.
You're going to need three software programs downloaded, uncompressed
and installed on your computer to complete this exercise:
1. Plug in your phone with your USB data cable and start up P2K
Manager.
2. P2K
Manager should show your phone as "connected" and as "phone model:
V3."
3. Let P2K
Manager read the files on your phone by clicking the "Update
list" button.
4. Download SEEM 0032_0001 by typing 0032 in both the "From" and "to"
boxes and clicking the "Download seem" button.
5. P2K
Manager will want to save your SEEM to a directory. Create a
new folder and name it something easily recognizable like "back up razr
seems." Make sure you don't change the name of the SEEM from xxxx_yyyy
or it will not function correctly.
6. Now let's do the same exercise with the 004a_0001 SEEM. Remember to
type 004a in both the "From" and "to" boxes and then click the "Download
seem" button.
7. P2K
Manager will automatically want to save SEEM 004a_0001 to the
"back up razr seems" directory you just created. It will already show
SEEM 0032_0001 in the folder as well.
8. Click "Save" and remember not to change the name of the
SEEM from xxxx_yyyy.
That could cause big problems later.
13. Click "File" on the menu bar and select "Open" to open the "back up
razr seems" directory. You should see both SEEMs you just uploaded from
your phone with P2K
Manager.
14. We need to check to see if we need to deactivate the Motorola
startup and shutdown animations first. They'll probably already be
deactivated if you have a branded flex like Cingular or T-Mobile, but
check just to remove all doubt. Select SEEM 0032_0001 and then click
the "Open" button.
15. Now we're in the SEEM. Don't be worried if this is your first time.
It's not as bad as it seems (no pun intended).
16. We're going to do this the easy way, so just press hold "ctrl"
and then "g" on your keyboard to get the "Go to address"
window open.
17. Select the "hexidecimal" radio button and highlight whatever number
is in the box next to the drop down arrow.
Type in 1D in that box and click "OK."
