This guide will get your stock IM client on your moto to work! I use it all the time, best part is that its FREE! (well you might have to pay for net access, be sure of your data rates before you do this!)
The following details how to set up the embedded IMPS-compliant chat application on your Motorola phone to work with our IMPS server. The instructions are based on the E398 model, but it should apply to almost all Motorola handsets that embed the chat application.

The procedures for sending messages and adding/removing users are straightforward, and are not explained in this document. Please consult the user manuals for detail.
ISP Settings:
1. Go to the "IM" menu. (Click on the 8th icon, which is the middle icon in the 3rd row of the main menu)
2. Choose "Offline settings".
3. Choose "ISP settings".
4. Fill in the GPRS access point name for the operator you are using. Examples are cmnet (for CMCC), sgprs (for Sunday), internet (for SmarTone) and web-g.three.com.hk (for 3HK). If usernames and passwords are required, please fill them in as well.
5. Remember to save the changes by pressing "Done".
IMPS Account Setup:
1. Go to the "IM" menu. (Click on the 8th icon, which is the middle icon in the 3rd row of the main menu)
2. Choose "IM Account".
3. By default, "[New]" is highlighted. Create a new IM account by selecting it.
4. In the "IM ID" dialog box, fill in the username of your IMPS account.
5. In the "Password" dialog box, fill in the password of your IMPS account.
6. At this point, the "IM Account Setup" shows up. For the "IM Server" field, specify "www.smartvas.com".
7. For the "IM Port" field, specify "80".
8. For the "Post URL" field, specify "/oma/imps".
9. If you prefer your IMPS login to be in secure mode, change the "Secure Login" setting to "Yes".
10. Remember to save the changes by pressing "Done".
