Creating a Backup with Flash & Backup 3
by sebgonz
This
Tutorial will teach you how to create a backup of your RIZR Z3 using
Flash & Backup 3.
Things
you will need:
Flash
& Backup 3 (With Z3 Profile.)
Lets
get started.
In
order for FB3 to recognize your phone, you have to start it in
Bootloader mode. (Hold # and * while powering on your phone.)

In
"Active Phone Profile", make sure it reads "Motorola
RIZR Z3"
Make
sure the menu at the top (The light-blue box) has "Read Data"
highlighted in red. This means that you are using that menu item.
Check what happens if you click on other words in that box.
Select
the backup format that you would like to use. Personally, I use "SHX
(S-Records file)" because you can then use it in RSD Lite also
to flash your backup if needed.
To
make a complete backup, just check the "Select all" box in
the middle left of the screen.
Now
select "Read Data" to start your backup.
You
will then get another popup that looks like this that shows the
progress of your backup.

Just
sit back and relax. It takes some time to make a full backup of your
phone.
Once
your backup is completed, FB3 will restart your phone. If it
does not, just restart it automatically. You are now done making a
backup.
Your
backup is saved to the location in the red box. I would rename it to
something a little more descriptive. Perhaps RIZR Z3 backup or name
it with the software and firmware version. Just be sure that it?s
something that will distinguish it from other backups that you will
make in the future.
Part
2
Flashing
your backup to your phone.
Flashing
your backup is just as easy as creating it was.

Make
sure your phone is on Write Data
Then
click Select File.

Navigate
to where you saved your backup. I have renamed mine. I suggested
that you rename yours also.
Select
it and then click Open.

For
a full reflash, you will need to make sure that all the boxes are
checked. You can also just reflash certain parts of your backup if
you?ve only messed up certain things. For example, if you flashed
a corrupt DRM, you can just reflash your DRM backup.
For
our case, we will be flashing a full backup.

You
will once again get a window showing the progress of the reflash.
Once its done, just press Close and you are done.
