General CDMA Change Outside LCD V3c V3m

From Guides

by nevardeath

This is one of the most obvious mods out there and a very popular one. It’s certainly my favorite and makes your phone stand apart from other stock RAZRs considerably. There are a few different methods for different carriers, and I will describe most here. The carriers I cover in this guide are U.S. Cellular, Alltel, Telus, Verizon, and Sprint (V3m) If you have a V3m Verizon, or any other carrier and the method is different, please PM me to let me know and I’ll add it. Also let me know if your carrier isn’t listed here and it’s the same as one of the methods listed so we this can be an effective reference for everyone with all carriers. The instructions for the Project Red V3m from USCC have been added at the bottom of this guide. Let's get started!

Contents

The seem edit method:

This works for the V3c on U.S. Cellular, Alltel, and Telus. I bet it’ll work on the USCC V3m too, but I don’t have any way to find out. PM me if it works on your USCC V3m

What you need:
PST 7.2.3 google its warez
P2kseem

The picture you want on there. It must be a 96x80 .gif image. Animated gifs will just display the first frame of it, they won’t move L You can find loads of Wallpaper/Screensaver/cl.gif sets at here
XVI32 (homepage)

Step 1:

Launch PST and minimize it. Open p2kseem. Now the seem we will edit is 2771, 2772, and 275a. So Load up seem 2771 record 1 and set the Bytes (h) to 0030 otherwise nothing will come up! So you should have a screen similar to this:

image009.jpg

Now click the “Save to file” button and save it in your “Good Backups” folder. That way if we screw it up we can just reload your backup.

Step 2:

Fire up XVI32 and open your saved 2771_0001.seem file. You should get a screen like this (without the arrow of course):

image010.jpg

Now click the first box on the right where the arrow is pointing in the picture above and then type (with the spaces) / a / m o b i l e / c l . g i f so it looks like this:

image011.jpg

Now if you look on the right side you’ll see hexadecimal numbers that represent everything you just typed on the right. It puts the number 20 when you type a space. If you leave those 20’s in there it will not work, so click over to the other side and change all the 20’s to 00 like this:

image012.jpg

Now save it!

Step 3:

Now go back to p2kseem and enter the seem number, record and bytes (2771 , 0001, 0030 respectively) and instead of clicking “Load from Phone” Click “Load from file” and now it should show up just how you edited it. It should look like this:

image014.jpg

Now just click “Save to Phone” it will ask you if you’re sure, then click “Yes” and it saves it to your phone. Now in the “Seem:” textbox type 2772 and click “Save to Phone” click yes when it asks you if you’re sure.

Step 4:

In order to correctly load another seem, you must close p2kseem and open it again. Now get seem 275a record 1 bytes 7a. Go to Offset 27 and set bit 0 to no checkmark. Like this:

image016.jpg

Make sure under “Selected Byte Details” it says “Offset 0027” before you uncheck this bit. Not all models require you to do this. All this does is toggle text or graphics mode on your outside LCD screen.

Now open p2kcommander and save your cl.gif file to the “/a/mobile” directory. If the picture isn’t named like above it will not load properly.

Step 5:

Now you’re almost done! Close all the programs, unplug your phone and power cycle it, and your picture should now show up on the outside LCD! It won’t show immediately, once the phone gets part the “Hellomoto” screen it should show.

If you have problems with this method, post your questions at the V3c/V3m forums

The easy replace method:

This method works for Verizon (V3c), Sprint (V3m), and USCC (Project Red V3m) phones. If it works on your phone and it’s not listed here, PM me so I can add it.

What you need:
PST 7.2.3 google its warez
P2kCommander
The picture you want on there. It must be a 96x80 .gif image. Animated gifs will just display the first frame of it, they won’t move L You can find loads of Wallpaper/Screensaver/cl.gif sets here

How to:

USCC V3m:

This is very simple. Name the picture file you want to use “uscc.gif” minus the quotes of course. Then open p2kCommander and select “P2k Mobile Phone” from the drop down menu on the right and go to the /a/mobile/ directory. Backup the original uscc.gif that is on your phone! On the left side browse to where your pictures are stored. Right click your uscc.gif and select “Copy” it will copy it over and replace the old one. Now just power cycle your phone and it will show up!

Sprint:

This is very simple. Name the picture file you want to use “Sprint.gif” minus the quotes of course. Then open p2kCommander and select “P2k Mobile Phone” from the drop down menu on the right and go to the /a/mobile/ directory. Backup the original Sprint.gif that is on your phone! On the left side browse to where your pictures are stored. Right click your Sprint.gif and select “Copy” it will copy it over and replace the old one. Now just power cycle your phone and it will show up!

Big thanks to Ghost for figuring out this one out!

Verizon:

This is very simple. Name the picture file you want to use “Verizon.gif” minus the quotes of course. Then open p2kCommander and select “P2k Mobile Phone” from the drop down menu on the right and go to the /a/mobile/ directory. Backup the original Verizon.gif that is on your phone! On the left side browse to where your pictures are stored. Right click your Verizon.gif and select “Copy” it will copy it over and replace the old one. Now just power cycle your phone and it will show up!
