General CDMA Edit the BREW Player

From Guides

by hackerwacher

I put this together for some folks at the ho-fo site. . . .

Although color theory and image editing are beyond the scope of this post you will need a little knowledge in those areas.

Please remember that this guide is simply put together from my disorganized notes. I don’t promise perfection. Figuring this out is a work in progress. Helpful suggestions and info are most welcome. Complaints . . . . . not so much.
And, don't forget, hacking into your phone is inherently risky.

Before getting started you will need to have Bitpim working and you will need to download BREW Resource Editor which you can find at either hacktherazr or Qualcomm.

Contents

1. Save a Template mp3 Skin

The Telus k1m mp3 skins are kept in brew/mod/mp3player. If you navigate there with Bitpim you will find a .bar file named to match each default skin on your phone. Save one to your computer and once you’ve done that rename it something like “mp3player_template”.

As you can see, the “mp3player_skinname.bar” files are all lowercase letters even if the phone skin name isn’t.

2. Open Template in BREW Resource Editor

You will need to have BREW look in “all files” to find the mp3player_template.bar file you saved.

3. Change Font Colors

Clicking on “strings” in the left hand pane shows text and font info for the mp3 skin. Three numbers separated by commas refer to the red, green and blue values of a font color.
Double clicking on an ID pops up an editing window in which you can change the RGB values. Click the Apply button after EACH change.

4. Changing Images

Clicking on “Objects” in the left hand pane shows the skin’s graphics information. Clicking on an ID in the center pane brings up details and an object preview to the right. Note the dimensions and file type of the images you are going to edit.

To change a default graphic to one you’ve made of similar size and type
- hilite the ID row
- under attributes in the right hand window click source.
- choose file in the drop down box
- click apply!
- under attributes in the right hand window click data.
- a box with three dots … will appear. Click on the three dots and navigate to the image you are using as a replacement.
- click apply!

5. Save & Upload the *.bar File

After making all font and images changes go to Build>Compile Resource Script in the main BREW menu bar. Name the file “mp3player_yourskinname” using all lower case letters and with “yourskinname” being the name of the skin to which you are matching the mp3 playerr. Use bitpim to transfer your newly created *.bar file to brew/mod/mp3player. Reboot phone.
