Guide to Making Maxx V6 Fonts from Windows Fonts
by TheBressman
Hey guys, after being constantly frustrated by the phone hanging and crashes caused by Pioneer's Calibri font mod (no offence to Pioneer of course, he's a great modder), I decided to go out on a limb and try to create a font file myself. Surprisingly, it worked a charm ! So I've created a "short" tutorial below for those wishing to create their own font file for the Maxx V6.
LEGAL STUFF:
I take no responsibility if by some off chance you misinterpret this guide and brick your phone. However, chances are, unless you pull the USB cable out whilst writing to flash (which still shouldnt TOTALLY brick the phone), the worst you'll do is have strange boxes instead of letters as your font. So don't worry, be happy !
Step 1
Use Flash&Backup to backup your CG4 (Language pack) in case of failure.
Step 2
Download "High-Logic Font Creator", "SBF Re-Calc" and "3G Font Tool" using the link provided. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PZNFXHWF
Step 3
Open SBF Re-Calc, click "Open Flash-File" and navigate to where your monster pack is located.
Step 4
In SBF Re-Calc, click "Split Flash-File". Delete all created files except for the following files:
Leave SBF Re-Calc open for later.
Step 5
Open up "3G Font Tool" (change the font by clicking "Sprachen" then English), open up the *CG4.smg. Click "Save". Three font files will be created in the folder the *CG4.smg file is located. Delete the two smallest ones and keep the largest. Leave "3G Font Tool" open for later.
Step 6
Right-click this font file and click "Open with FontCreator". A window will open such as shown below.
Step 7
In the FontCreator window, click File > Open > Installed Font. Scroll down to Calibri (Regular) and click OK. Then click Window > Tile Vertical, to make it easier to work with the two fonts. The window should look like the picture below.
Step 8
You will notice that the font on the left (from the phone) and the font on the right (Calibri from the computer) have the characters in totally different orders. To fix this, make sure the focus is on Calibri (ie: the Calibri font is the active window) and then click Font > Sort Glyphs, then click OK. After sorting, the windows should look like this.
Step 9
In the Calibri window, highlight from the "!" down to the "~" and press Ctrl + C. Then in the phone font window, do the same thing but press Ctrl + V. Now both the phone font and the Calibri windows should look identical in the sections you highlighted.
Step 10
Give the phone font window focus and go to File > Save. Congratulations, your font is ready to go !
Step 11
In "3G Font Tool", highlight "Font 1" and click Replace. Navigate to the font we just altered and click Open. Then click "Create". A file will be created in the same folder called neu_cg4.smg and your original *CG4.smg will be changed to *CG4.smg.bak1.
Highlight the original file's name up to *CG4 then copy this and paste it into neu_cg4's name.
For example:
My file names were-
- R26111VL-AS_U_96.66.74R_LP0055_DRM1001_VSTU_207_0C_JPAU_R26 111VolansTELSTRA_08_USVOLANT878HHR26111056_1FF-CG4.smg.bak1 (My original file)
- neu_cg4.smg (My new file)
Once replaced, my file names were-
- R26111VL-AS_U_96.66.74R_LP0055_DRM1001_VSTU_207_0C_JPAU_R26 111VolansTELSTRA_08_USVOLANT878HHR26111056_1FF-CG4.smg.bak1 (My original file)
- R26111VL-AS_U_96.66.74R_LP0055_DRM1001_VSTU_207_0C_JPAU_R26 111VolansTELSTRA_08_USVOLANT878HHR26111056_1FF-CG4.smg (My new file)
CAUTION:
Take the original file and the font we created OUT of the folder at this point and put them somewhere safe for now (such as the desktop)
Step 12
Back in SBF Re-Calc, click on "Open CG-Folder" and select the folder that your new file is located in (which should be where the *.hmg and *ramdld.smg are located)
Your window should now look like this.
Step 13
Click "ReCalc Checksum" and your window MUST look like this before continuing !
Step 14
Made it this far ? Nice work ! Thankfully I can tell you that we're almost done. Simply click "Create SBF-File". In the folder you selected beforehand, a folder called "SBF-FlashFile" will appear. Inside is your completed flash file. Now simply use your favourite flashing program (I used Flash&Backup because I've had problems with RSD Lite flashing CG4 before but its really up to you) to flash the CG4 back onto your Maxx V6.
Step 15
Powercycle (restart) your phone and you're done ! As far as I know this SHOULD work with all fonts that you might want to create, but make sure that you use the "Sort Glyphs" in Font Creator and make sure that the appropriate characters line up between the computer font and the extracted phone font.
