Razr v3 Taking it Apart

When I first had to replace some parts in my phone I couldn't get enough details from the available guides--no pictures! Hence was born my idea to create a fully detailed picture guide to disassembling the Razr. There is also a good guide put together by ajay16, its a .pdf file--direct download link here.

Take it Apart.

Tools you will need:

A small flathead screwdriver.

A T5 and T6 screwdriver.

A SIM card, or anything with a thin hard NON-METAL edge. (So as not to scratch the paint).

Here, my friends, is a lonely little Razr. He needs someone to get inside him...

First, lets get that battery door off. If you have fingernails (I don't, crap. ;) ) then you can just pop it off, but I always have to use some random flat thing. SIM cards work great. If you use a screwdriver, be careful not to scratch anything.

Whew, its off.

Get that SIM card out of there, little SIM cards should never have to see what we're about to do.

Those are T6 screws, use your T6 screwdriver to get those suckers out.

Now you want to pop that bottom part off. It feels like you're gonna break it because those circled red parts two pictures down are trying to hold it on. Use your SIM card (my tool of choice for this, but you can use anything NOT metal. If you use the SIM, be careful to use the side that doesn't look like a computer chip) to pop it off.

There's a little guy holding those two pieces together, just pull it apart. I usually use the screwdriver to pop it easier, but you can just use your fingers.

Thats the piece you took off!

These next two you only have to look at if you are trying to take this part off... otherwise skip the next two pictures!

All right. Next we take the keypad off. All those circled metal tabs need to be bent so they are pointing straight up, like you see in the picture underneath this.

Good, now use your screwdriver to push all the metal tabs out.

Pull the keypad out carefully, you don't want to break any of the tabs off.

It comes right off to join our growing group of disassembled parts.

Now you see the keypad. If you need to replace that, it is stuck on with an adhesive. I am not going to take it off in this guide, since it won't go back on well, but all you do is get some tweezers or a knife under a corner, and pull it up like you'd pull gum off a shoe.

If you need to take that big part of the phone at the bottom of the keypad, unscrew those screws (t5) and do so.

So far the best way I've found to get those pesky rubber dots off the screws is with a thumb-tack. Poke from the side, not the top, and once its all back together you'll never know you touched it.

Unscrew all the screws. There are 4 total, one in each corner.

Again, use your trusty SIM card to pop the tabs apart here. Check the second pic down--it didn't focus too well, too bad. ;) ONe clip on each side and you're set.

Another part to add to the collection.

Underneath the cover.

Pop off the connector here. This connect the keypad to the mainboard.

Unscrew (T5) the screw holding the right hinge in, and push it out.

Push the left hinge out as well. I use a flathead screwdriver again.

If you need to remove the dual LCD module, make sure the side connectors are undone, and simply pop it out, using a screwdriver on the side as I have shown here. It comes out, all as one piece. Be VERY careful with this piece. Excess pressure will crack the LCD screens. Make sure when you leverage the piece out, you are pushing on metal, not the screen itself.

Now, REASSEMBLY!!!!! Pop thes guys back in if they fell out (or you took them out). They fit in only one way, check the grroves to makes ure they are in right. If you have to force them in you are doing it wrong, they should slide right in. I actually wish they weren't so loose!

Pop the top back on.

Follow this guide backwards to put it all back together, and voila! You have disassembled and reassembled a Motorola V3 Razr! Congratulations!
