Razr v3 backup with flashbackup 2.6.2

From Guides

by Motocat, Quackers, and ColsTiger

This guide started with the intentions of showing a simple way to restore your FlashBackup 2.62 files (Full Backup, PDS Backup, Bootloader Backup) to your phone. After much discussion and many PMs, I was convinced that using FlashBackup to restore backup files was too risky. Some users have experienced problems with USB port configuration and/or USB and P2K driver issues. Unfortunately, when FlashBackup freezes, it usually freezes right after ERASING your PDS! That’s not good! I sure don’t want to be responsible for any more bricks than we already have. So after consulting with Quackers, and a lot of research and trial and error, I decided to change directions.

Motocat developed this technique and should be given 100% of the credit for this guide. His experience and work with bootloader downgrades and unlocking phones has made him a popular individual in the modding community. He was the one that initially explained to me that Monster Packs did not upgrade bootloader files (a common misconception at the time). I haven’t skipped a single post of his since. All I can take credit for in this endeavor is the addition of some screen caps and the updating of terminology to fit the newer software versions.

Quackers was also instrumental in walking me through the process so that I could understand and convey each and every step. This is really pretty painless though. Special thanks should go to Mikekay10 and TDun2 also. 10 provided me with a great HTML program, and TDun2 sent me the steps to creating the custom MP initially. Thanks for the help guys!

This guide is a sequel to the How to Backup Your Razr with FlashBackup guide. Some steps will seem redundant. Because we won’t actually be backing up our phones using the FlashBackup files, it is not imperative that you downgrade your bootloader. If you do decide, however, to try using the Flashbackup files to restore your phone, you MUST have bootloader 07.D0 for the program to work properly. But like I stated in the first paragraph, that can sometimes have disastrous results!

You'll need two software programs: FlashBackup 2.62 and SHX Codec 2.66. Download and install them on your computer.

1. Open Flashbackup 2.62 and select the Backups button at the top.

2. Select the Backup type by clicking the arrow for the drop down menu.

3. Select Custom Range and enter 11140000-11FDFFFF in the range box.

4. Check the box for Disable Backup Compression.

5. Check the Select Loader box and click the arrow to get the drop down menu. Click on Select Another from the drop down menu.

From the “RamDld Pack” window, select 32 MB (08A0).ldr.

6. Connect phone and press the CREATE button. Backup begins.

mmp9.JPG

7. When complete, FlashBackup should have created a .bin file of 14.6 MB. (If not, then something is wrong, so go back to Step 1)

mmp10.JPG

8 Now place this file in a new folder by itself and name the folder something like MyV3Backup.

mmp11.JPG

Locate your original MonsterPack .shx file (the one currently installed on your phone) and place it in that folder also.

mmp12.JPG

9. Now open SHX Codec 2.66 and click the SPLIT SOURCE SHX FILE.

mmp13.JPG

10. Navigate to your MyV3Backup folder and select the Monster Pack .shx file;

mmp14.JPG

Click OPEN, and the file will then be split into CG file groups.

mmp15.JPG

11. Select/highlight the CG2 file of type Flex with the address of start=11140000, end=11FDFFFF, and size=15,335,424.

mmp16.JPG

12. Now click REPLACE

mmp17.JPG

and change the file’s type to (Bin Files *.bin). Select your backup flex .bin file in your MyV3Backup directory, and click OPEN;

mmp18.JPG

then confirm replacement.

mmp19.JPG

Check that the CG2 was replaced correctly and with the correct address. Verify the address and size in Step 11; if not the same, go back to Step 1.

mmp20.JPG

13. Now click the COMPILE SHX button.

mmp21.JPG

and enter a file name for your new personal MonsterPack backup. I just added _ColsTiger_6.22.06.backup_ to the end of the original MP name. Make sure the .shx extension is there, then click SAVE, and the compiling of the flash begins.

mmp22.JPG

The process is completed when the .shx file is compiled.

mmp23.JPG

14. Use RSD_Lite (don’t ask me, because I can’t tell!) or MFF (Multi Flash Flex) to flash the file to your phone in the event that the flex backup is needed.

mmp24.JPG

It may seem like a lot, but anyone can use Motocat’s technique to build his or her own backup personal Monster Pack file in about 10 – 15 minutes.

One word of warning though. This file will contain an EXACT replicate of your phone-- including any messages, pictures, videos, games, etc that you may have. PLEASE do NOT post any links anywhere to MonsterPacks that have ANY warez in them--its against the law! Good luck! CT
